Barron Associates Receives NIH Phase IIB Award to Expand its KneeBRIGHT System for Osteoarthritis

The “Knee Biofeedback Rehabilitation Interface for Game-based Home Therapy (KneeBRIGHT)” system combines electromyography (EMG) biofeedback with video game therapy to provide knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients with an engaging, effective tool for conducting rehabilitation exercises at home. Barron Associates previously successfully completed a Phase II randomized control clinical trial with 32 participants with knee OA. Strength, pain, and balance measures increased across all participants after the 10-week regimen. The Phase IIB program will expand the system to include additional game features and clinician software. Furthermore, the team will conduct an additional clinical trial including multiple knee OA physical therapists to evaluate the translation of the system into clinical practice.
