Conference Publication on Techniques for Using Measured Data to Update Aircraft Models

Recent research into the use of generalized polynomial chaos to update aircraft models using measured data was presented at the AIAA Scitech 2021 Forum by Michael DeVore, Jared Cooper, and Adam Reed. This presentation covered techniques for updating models of dynamical systems using probabilistic techniques based on measured real-world data collected from the physical systems those models represent. It cast the problem as one of Bayesian inference, in which posterior distributions of key model parameters are computed from an initial uncertainty model and noisy sensor data. The technique was demonstrated on a nonlinear tiltrotor aircraft model.
