Pilot Testing Completed for Cystic Fibrosis Treatment Monitor

Barron Associates has developed the Promoting AdheRence via Objective Technology to Assess Cystic Fibrosis Treatment (PROTRACT) system that combines sensing of nebulizer and airway clearance treatments for cystic fibrosis (CF). PROTRACT aims to motivate patients with CF to conduct their therapies as prescribed by providing an objective and accurate method for measuring patient adherence to all treatment delivery devices. Adherence data are presented to patients in an interface that offers motivational and logistical guidance through complex treatment regimens. Barron Associates completed testing of the prototype PROTRACT system with 10 CF patients. Preliminary data analysis indicates that adherence classification of sensor data obtained very high accuracy at determining usage of nebulizer and airway clearance treatments.
